THE HOTEL DOWNTOWN

Nothing better to fall asleep to in a foreign town

Everyone has their own bed, you don’t have to worry about cleaning, and room service is there for you to order a $34 breakfast sandwich at midnight only to find it the next morning because you fell asleep watching reruns of Survivorman on Discovery.

There are a few advantages here. Generally you’re closer to downtown and therefore the bar districts. Limiting time spent in cars, ample food options, and a short walk home in the off-chance you convince someone to overlook your many flaws.

There’s probably a hotel bar or pool you can congregate at after hours but just be sure to not get stuck within the walls too often - plenty out there to explore.

After you’re settled in, you gotta make a call:

++: The Kimpton Van Zandt (Geraldine’s), Marriott (Zanzibar), and Fairmont (Rules & Regs) are the picks here. Not the “nicest” places in the city but perfect to get a group into. If you’re looking to SPEND spend, go with the Austin Proper. Drinks are $22 but the vibe is unmatched.
