BREWERIES
I was brought up on a few clear principles. High on that list was (and still is) “No Shitty Beer”. That’s what you get with a dad who’s sold lagers longer than I’ve been alive. I’ve broken that rule here and there, but I urge you to follow it when in Austin. Too many good spots to panic order Bud Lights.
This activity clearly falls under “day drinking” as well, but turns the heat down a notch and keeps your just-beyond-dad bod physique comfortably within the confines of your t-shirt.
You’re not gonna have a problem finding something with enough picnic table space to seat a mid-size Rotary Club poker tournament which usually works out well for bachelor parties. Granted if you’re anywhere near an outdoor brewery from June-September just don’t wear gray shorts and know you’re going to be miserable downstairs.
On a lighter note, if you’re looking for local beers that hit, Austin is a great place for it. You and the half-strength squad roll into a spot you know isn’t crawling with talent and that’s fine. You’re in it to throw back a few unique beers you’ll never try again and have some fun. 9 times out of 10 it’s the same experience here - flights of beers at huge tables, decent to above-average pub food, and a random set of lawn games you have no intention of playing but end up in a highly competitive situation that requires some de-escalation before dinner anyway.
That being said, I’ll just the list of spots with fantastic beer and atmosphere in multiple areas of the city to hit before heading back to home base to regroup with those Friday flight guys...
